Dr. Charudutt Apte is one of India’s leading neurosurgeons, known for his pioneering contributions in brain and spine surgery, academic excellence, and patient-focused treatment philosophy.

A gold medalist in neurosurgery from Christian Medical College, Vellore (1983), he has pioneered several innovations in India, including the first indigenous stereotactic equipment (1991), subarachnoid screw (1995), and the Radio Frequency Lesion Generator (1996). He also introduced functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery in Pune and established Maharashtra’s first private DNB Neurosurgery training institute in 2002.

 

In 2004, as the Chairman & Managing Director of Sahyadri Hospitals Ltd., Dr. Charudutt Apte transformed healthcare in Western Maharashtra, growing it into a network of 8 hospitals with 900+ beds.

Deeply committed to social causes, he founded Samavedana Foundation (2003) to support underprivileged patients and has enabled treatment for thousands through government health schemes.

For his exceptional contributions, he has been honored with numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year (2014) by E-Health & Govt. of Maharashtra, and the Suryadatta National Award for Excellence in Medical Social Service.

Dr. Charudutt Apte is a world-renowned neurosurgeon, innovator, and healthcare visionary with over 35 years of experience and more than 20,000 successful neurosurgeries to his credit.

Led Sahyadri’s expansion across Maharashtra with hospitals in
Kothrud, Bibwewadi, Karad, Nashik, Hadapsar, Shivajinagar, and Ahilyanagar, among others.

In 2003, Dr. Charudutt Apte founded Samavedana, a charitable trust that provides specialty care to underprivileged patients free of cost. The initiative has supported over 1,400 patients, utilized more than ₹14 crore in CSR funds, and conducted 18,000+ free cancer screenings for women in rural and urban areas.

Driven by his social vision, Dr. Charudutt Apte ensured Sahyadri Hospitals became the only private tertiary care hospital in Pune to implement the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, providing treatment to 6,000+ underprivileged patients.

For over 15+ years, he has also volunteered at Jalna Mission Hospital, operating free of charge at the Neurology OPD, with donations directed entirely toward the hospital’s Neurology unit.
